Eligible women in NSW who have received an eligible fertility treatment on or after 19 February 2025, can apply for the $2,000 rebate.

To check if you are eligible and begin your application, you can find more information on the Service NSW website.

Information for VIC patients: Pre-IVF Mandatory counselling

If you’re based in Victoria, patients receiving treatment will also need to attend a mandatory counselling session appointment prior to commencing treatment.  Both patient and partner will need to attend the counselling session.  Please contact the counsellors directly to arrange an appointment:

Please note that a fee will be payable to the counsellor on the day of your appointment.  Please ask the counsellor for an estimate of their fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does IVF Cost in Australia?

The average IVF cost in Australia ranges from $9,000 to $15,000 per cycle at full-fee clinics. At First Step Fertility, our bulk billed IVF reduces costs by up to 75%, with  expenses under $2,000.

How much Does ICSI Treatment Cost?

ICSI treatment cost at full-fee clinics can exceed $3,000. At First Step Fertility, we offer an affordable alternative, with out-of-pocket expenses under $650. Please contact our team for more information.

Can you pick gender with IVF?

In Australia, gender selection with IVF is generally not allowed unless for medical reasons. Regulations restrict selecting a baby’s sex unless to prevent genetic conditions.

Is ICSI cheaper than IVF?

IVF and ICSI are both fertility treatments, but the main difference lies in how fertilisation occurs. In IVF, sperm and egg are combined naturally in a lab dish. In ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into the egg, often used for male infertility. ICSI involves an additional procedure, so it generally costs more than standard IVF—but at First Step Fertility, it remains affordable with Medicare rebate options.
