When choosing fertility care, safety, accuracy, and support are essential. At First Step Fertility, we know how much trust you place in us, and we are committed to honouring that trust with care and precision at every stage of your journey.
Fertility treatment safety involves the careful handling of sperm, eggs, and embryos and that responsibility is never taken lightly. Every step matters. That’s why we’ve put strict systems in place to protect your treatment and give you peace of mind.
Along with our comprehensive quality protocols, we use both advanced technology and physical double-checks to ensure your safety from start to finish.
The RI Witness ART Management System: A globally recognised system
At First Step Fertility, we use the RI Witness ART Management System to help keep your treatment safe and accurate.
This globally trusted system uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to track and monitor sperm, eggs, and embryos in real time. It helps prevent mistakes by alerting our team if something doesn’t match, and it won’t let the process move forward unless everything is correct.
From preparing sperm and eggs to fertilisation and embryo transfer, every step is checked and monitored. It’s all part of our commitment to giving you safe, reliable care throughout your fertility journey.
Double-Witnessing for Extra Peace of Mind
While technology plays a vital role, we know that human oversight also matters. That’s why we use physical double-witnessing at every critical stage of your treatment.
This means that two qualified embryologists independently verify and record the identification, labelling, and handling of your samples before any procedure can proceed. It’s a second layer of protection, designed to keep everything on track with complete accuracy.
These safeguarding checkpoints include:
- Before treatment begins: Your documentation and consent forms are carefully reviewed and confirmed to match your treatment plan
- Sperm collection or retrieval: Whether using a fresh or frozen sample, two scientists confirm that the correct sperm is identified before use
- Sperm preparation: The sample is matched with your patient details using both the RI Witness system and physical witnessing verification, with all tubes labelled before moving to the next phase
- In the lab: For every IVF procedure, two scientists physically witness the sperm sample and oocytes in the laboratory before insemination occurs. RI Witness is also utilised, with sperm tubes and oocyte dishes all tagged by the RI system. Patients are also allocated an ID card which gives an extra layer of identification before insemination, egg collection or embryo transfer.
